Valentine's Day Social Monday morning we had a short, but sweet Valentine's Day Social on the play street. It was a chilly morning, that was made warmer with good friends, music, hot chocolate and lite snacks! This gave our students the important opportunity to hang out and have in-person face time with friends from other cohorts. St. John’s University & Transitions This semester a new group of Transitions students are taking classes at St. John’s University. The morning class covers advocacy and independence and the afternoon class covers a diverse range of subjects from digital citizenship to creative writing. This week, students wrote poems about something they love. Below are some samples from those who wanted to share their work. Enjoy! Out to Lunch Transitions’ students who have Out to Lunch class are out and about in SoHo trying a variety of restaurants that this wonderful neighborhood has to offer. This week, some students chose a grocery store - where their $15 budget offered many choices! There were some great prepared foods as well as packaged foods which offered an opportunity for some simple meal prep practice. Humanities Classes This week in Humanities, the Ros, Whitman, and Dorsey cohorts were able to participate in The Civil Rights Movement in NYC Webinar, courtesy of the Museum of the City of New York. Students learned about the important role that New York City and activists such as Ella Baker and Bayard Rustin played during the Civil Rights Movement between the 1940s-1960s. Students were also allowed to participate via the chat feature and were excited when the panelists read their comment! Below are some pictures from the Zoom-based webinar! Students also had the opportunity to socialize with their peers and learn about each other’s cultures during the Cooke Transitions Culture Carnival on February 18, 2022 during Friday afternoon classes. With support as well as participation from teachers, related service providers, paraprofessionals and community inclusion assistants, students were able to learn about all the different cultures at Cooke Transitions. Students shared their own cultural heritage as they were posted in the hallways here at 60 MacDougal. Additionally, in the afternoon students headed outside to have some fun with all the various music genres to listen and dance to! Lastly, as we head into Mid-Winter recess, we hope you all have a happy and healthy winter break.
