Hi Students and Families, We hope you are feeling well! Thank you for your continued partnership as we navigate through this new way of virtual learning! Every morning at 9 am students will receive an email listing assignments for that day. Assignments will be posted in Google Classroom, and students can complete work at any time of day in any order! You received an email yesterday "Virtual Learning Update #2," as per this update all students will be using Google Classroom as of 3/23/2020. Email Devin Merrick at [email protected] for Tech support! Please continue to check the Cooke Family Resource Hub for additional information. Virtual Movie Night!Just because you're social distancing it doesn't mean you and your friends have to give up your movie nights or TV watch parties. Check out Netflix Party, groups of friends can get together virtually and watch their favorite Netflix movies on their computers at the same time. Follow these steps to set up your own virtual movie night. Need support? Our counseling team is available to families via email Monday-Friday during regular school hours (8:15-4pm). Should you or your child need immediate assistance please contact your individual mental health provider or NYC Well. **If this is an emergency, call 911** Transition Workshop Last night a webinar was held for Cooke families on ABLE accounts. If you weren't able to tune in, you can listen to it here. (password Mxt6JRp5) Be Inspired! Each week we will share a motivational quote to inspire students and families. At this time, many of us are doing our best to stay home, engage in social distancing and stay healthy. See the quote above from one of my favorite athletes, Bethany Hamilton. Hamilton, 30 lost her left arm during a shark attack in 2003. Hamilton continues to surf and is an inspiration to all of us--Go Bethany! What's on Your Playlist? Now is the time to find ways to stay healthy. Listening to music is a great past time and a way to relax indoors. We're asking staff, "What are you listening to?" Click here to watch what Kendra (Community Inclusion Assistant), is listening to! Jacqueline Bediako, Assistant Division Head Alumni Association Alumni Update: All events and workshops will not be running while SKILLs is closed. Please see below for pictures from our recent Out to Dinner event! Earlier this semester...SKILLs Talent Show Last month, students showed off their special skills at our annual Talent Show. We hope you enjoy watching our stars here! Mets Students at St. John’s University The Mets cohort has done a great job at St. John’s University. They became more comfortable getting around the campus and working in different classes. Students have worked alongside St. John’s students as well. One class they have focused on this semester was working on their “personal brand”. They were exploring who they are, their passions, and their goals. FASHION IN THE CITY! In Community Literature, students started a unit surrounding Fashion in New York City. This unit began with students learning the definition of "Vintage" and relating it to their own lives. Some students expressed already being exposed to vintage clothing and stores! During this unit, students have had the opportunity to explore both vintage/thrift stores including Beacon's Closet, Buffalo Exchange, and Angel Street Thrift as well as stores they may shop in already; such as Old Navy, H&M, Nordstrom, and Forever 21. While in these stores, students were able to look for clothes they may wear in certain types of weather, what something they might wear for fun is, as well as what would be appropriate for their internship versus wearing out to dinner with family and friends. Below are some pictures from our community trips. -Ari [email protected] Dear Cooke Families,
With the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) identifying community transmission of COVID-19 in New York, New York State’s primary focus is aggressively identifying signs of the disease and potential COVID-19 exposure in travelers returning from China and other affected countries. Despite the confirmed cases in New York, New Yorkers remain at low risk for contracting the virus. At Cooke, the health and safety of all our students continues to be our priority. We will continue to update our protocols as the situation evolves according to guidance issued by the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH), the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (NYC DOHMH) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and will take all appropriate measures accordingly. While the concern for COVID-19 is valid, please note that the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) reports that influenza activity remains geographically widespread. As a reminder, please continue to practice healthy habits to prevent the spread of influenza and other respiratory viruses. Recommendations to prevent viral infection include:
