Hi Students and Families, Back to School Night will be held on Thursday, October 1 at 6PM. Our team is looking forward to sharing our curriculum plans, virtually seeing our families and continuing to build our partnership with each other!
Please reach out if you have any questions! Katie Riordan HEALTH FORMS If you have not yet completed this year's health forms, please be sure to reach out to your child's health provider ASAP. Forms must be completed before your child returns to school in -person. Health forms are more important than ever this year and there are strict guidelines from the Department of Health. Do not delay with these forms. Additional copies of the forms are HERE. Life Skills at Transitions It’s been a great (and unprecedented) start to the 2020-21 school year! This year Life Skills is covering transition services, as well as independence, self care, and organization. Students are going over “Post Secondary” options or what happens after Transitions and their E-portfolios with John and Francesca. In Life Skills, students discussed what they’ve been doing to take care of their mental health. Some great suggestions included going to Michael’s and crafting, going on a bike ride with a family member and spending time with friends. Starting the year in Math Explorations With organization as September's overarching theme across Cooke Transitions, students in math have been refreshing their knowledge on data collection and types of graphs. Students participated in a survey related to how they use math in daily life, and students worked with the data collected to compare their own experiences to that of their classmates. Students have also been making connections to where they see data and graphs in their own lives and why data collection is so important, especially with an upcoming election! Through Google Slide presentations, Kahoot and virtual Jeopardy, students have been having fun practicing their data and graphing knowledge! 12-week Social Skills workshops series is beginning on September 30th! It's a 12-week program on enhancing social skills development and peer-to-peer skills development for young adults on the autism spectrum. The program utilizes the PEERS Curriculum (Program for the Education and Enrichment of Relational Skills ) developed at UCLA by Dr. Elizabeth Laugeson and Dr. Fred Frankel, and is led by a seasoned PEERS instructor, Kristen Singagliese and two support staff. Virtual sessions will run... Day: Every Wednesday starting 9/20/20 and ending 1/6/2021 (no sessions on 11/25, 12/23, 12/30) Time: 4:30pm - 6:00pm Where: ZOOM! Registration: Please complete this brief Intake form - Social Skills Intake Considerations: Due to it being remote, we are offering the sessions earlier than usual, so please note the new time. Additionally, it's a full 12 weeks, so consistency is important. There are only a certain number of slots, so RSVP asap! To register please click on the link: https://www.adaptcommunitynetwork.org/familysummit2020 The registration form describes the topics that are offered and is translated into Spanish and Chinese. If you have any questions about the Summit, please feel free to contact us at [email protected] or 718-436-7979 ext. 704. Hi Students and Parents, While this has not been the typical start to the school year, the Transitions Faculty have been so excited to teach our students again! We are glad to see our returning and incoming students reunited with each other; and we are happy to welcome our new students to the Cooke family. We are looking forward to a great year together!
Have a great weekend! Katie Riordan
Meet the Cohorts! This year our student cohorts are named after people who have worked hard to make the world a better place. Throughout the year, we will learn about them, as well as other people who have tried to make positive changes. Students will have opportunities to learn more through class discussions, watching film clips or documentaries. To learn more about our cohorts names click here! Resources |
