Dear Cooke Families,
With the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) identifying community transmission of COVID-19 in New York, New York State’s primary focus is aggressively identifying signs of the disease and potential COVID-19 exposure in travelers returning from China and other affected countries. Despite the confirmed cases in New York, New Yorkers remain at low risk for contracting the virus. At Cooke, the health and safety of all our students continues to be our priority. We will continue to update our protocols as the situation evolves according to guidance issued by the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH), the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (NYC DOHMH) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and will take all appropriate measures accordingly. While the concern for COVID-19 is valid, please note that the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) reports that influenza activity remains geographically widespread. As a reminder, please continue to practice healthy habits to prevent the spread of influenza and other respiratory viruses. Recommendations to prevent viral infection include:
