School Closure Cooke Transitions remains closed for in-person programming due to two positive Covid cases. We will reopen for in-person learning on Friday, January 15. The school building has been sanitized and we will continue to follow safety protocols, as well as regular testing when we return. We ask all of our in-person families to remain as diligent as possible with health and safety protocols outside of school: mask wearing, social distancing, and keeping social interactions to your household group. Every decision we make outside of school impacts our whole community. A Response to the Riots (U.S. Capitol) Given the events at the U.S. Capitol earlier this week, we understand that some students who witnessed the scenes might have felt shock, sadness, confusion and many other emotions. Our counseling team and faculty have provided opportunities for students to share their feelings and ask questions in a safe space. These conversations will be on-going in small groups or in 1:1 sessions. Next steps:
Culture, Race and Equity at CookeCooke has entered into a partnership with the Center on Culture Race and Equity (CCRE) at Bank Street! Some of our Cooke parents and guardians already participated in an equity survey to help our partners gain information on race and equity as it pertains to the Cooke community. In December, faculty met with CCRE to begin the initial journey into this work; they met as part of a “Working Group” who will continue to meet throughout the 2020.2021 academic year. We are looking for interested parents to join the Working Group! Please see the survey HERE to learn more, and express interest in joining the Working Group. Parents, we hope you can join us! Clubs are back! It´s a New Year and we are rolling out new things. That´s right, say hello to our newest installment of clubs for 2021. We are constantly thinking of ways to improve the curriculum and provide students with alternate means of engaging socially with their peers. This next round of clubs will run for 4 weeks on Wednesdays and Thursdays and end on January 28. Check out some of what students have been learning about. Wonders of the World! Prepare to be amazed by some of the greatest natural and man-made structures ever known! Behind the Music See what takes place behind the curtains of some of your favorite music videos. If you ever wondered, ¨How did they do this?¨, Well, now you know! Sip & Draw Hold the wine, but do bring the juice! We had fun sipping our favorite beverages and making art to the soothing sounds of music. Content Club What's the latest trend on your favorite social media platform and how do they become so popular? This is the place to learn all that and more. Strange but True You will be surprised by some of these strange things that happen around the world that leave you scratching your head and wondering, ¨Is this really true?¨ From laws to traditions to some of the strangest homes and foods. Virtual Holiday Exchange This year the Holiday's looked different for everyone. At Transitions we found a way to keep the gift exchange tradition alive and make them meaningful even virtually! Students opted in to create gifts to be sent to their secret student pair via email. It was a big change this year to not shop for gifts. Students took this opportunity to explore the meaning of gifts and other options to gift giving that didn't include spending money. We spent time thinking about appreciation, the value of friendships, and what gifts mean to us. Students found many ways to get creative with their gifts! Everything from hand drawn cards, google docs, google slides, and videos were used. Gifts were exchanged through small zoom meetings where students could read their messages to each other. Staff supported the exchange by screen sharing the virtual gifts and encouraging positive social skills of expressing thanks and gratitude. See some of the amazing work below! Dance Party! The day didn't end there! We finished with an epic dance party DJ'd by the infamous Adam Stevens! Students and staff both remote and in-person joined together in an all-school, all-out dance showdown. Many wore holiday accessories, everyone had turns being spotlighted for their time to show off their moves, and the holiday spirit was pumping!
