Mindfulness Meditation
This semester Jamaica Bay students were introduced to mindfulness meditation. During our Relax and Recharge class, students practiced 25-minutes of meditation through guided body scans and deep breathing exercises. Through meditative practice, students are building awareness of feelings in their body, and building skills around sustained attention, emotional regulation and reducing stress and anxiety. Mindfulness is known to improve cognitive and social emotional skills, and enhance well being. To practice with your student at home, you can start with this 13-minute guided body scan: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X462QPGZQt4 and/or this deep breathing visual: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aXItOY0sLRY
