Transition's Student Voters! This past week many students were able to participate in an important young adult rite of passage: voting in their first mayoral election and making their voices heard! In partnership with our families, were able to help our students register to vote and form their own opinions about how they feel about key issues. Scroll down to see our voters, they are guaranteed to put a smile on your face! We are so proud of you! Our Voice, Our Choice Party On Wednesday we had an all out party to celebrate voting in this year's election and making our voices heard! We had pizza, snacks, ballots, voting and a dance party. Student's had opportunities to express themselves by making their own "I voted" stickers and writing changes they hope to see in NYC on post-its. Family Conferences As day two of conferences get underway, we thank you for your continued partnership with us! We look forward to continuing the conversations we're having with you throughout the remainder of the school year. A shout out to our student participants! We are so proud of you and we hope that you are enjoying showing off your hard work! What's That Smell? Things are smelling just like home here at Transitions. This year, students have ventured into the culinary realm with a new subject appropriately titled Mindful Nutrition. After a long haul of staying home, many have found hobbies to busy themselves or just to improve their lives and one such trend was cooking. Boy, was there a lot of cooking videos on social media or what? Our students are in a unique position to harness those skills with focused attention on their special diets. Each cohort has been learning about the kitchen and how to create foods that not only cater to their restricted diets, but are delicious and easy enough to copy at home. Added to that, they have been learning how not only safely use kitchen tools but also maintain a clean surrounding while they cook and cleaning up after they are done. At the end of the semester, students will be able to take home a digital or hard copy version of the recipes they have made, complete with pictures to savor the memories of their kitchen escapades. Here are a view highlights for your viewing pleasure! Transition Team Updates Transition Department Request Dear families, if you have not completed the Cooke Transitions Questionnaire or Non-Drivers ID Interest survey, please complete them at your earliest convenience. Feel free to reach out to Francesca or Anne if you have any questions regarding either of these. Thank you! Self discovery with Life Wheels In Transition class this semester, students are working on creating individual Life Wheels. Life Wheels are a powerful tool for visualizing all areas of your life at once, so that you can see what parts of your life are most important to you, and where you feel might most need improvement. Class conversations included discussions about topics that are most important to all of us: Health and wellness, and balancing our daily activities with rest, jobs and future careers ideas, and personal growth and interpersonal relationships. In the Bryant cohort, students completed an interactive assessment that automatically created some fun life wheels that helped us to pin point the areas students wanted to improve upon. In the Ros cohort, students worked on Google slide presentations outlining important aspects of each category. See below for some of our Life Wheels and snippets of our presentations! Transitions at NYUThis semester, three Transitions students, and an alumnus, joined Ms. Clancy's masters-level education classes, to serve as guest speakers to NYU graduate students. Cooke students, LJ, Aly, and Emma D discussed their transition plans, life as a Cooke student, and all of the cool things they have accomplished so far. Cooke alumnus Shio discussed similar topics but also shared anecdotes about life after Cooke. NYU students asked lots of questions about internship and job experiences, and students' personal goals for post-graduation. NYU students had a great time meeting and talking with our guest speakers, and learning about Cooke Transitions. We are so proud of our student advocates and how motivated they are to continue learning and teaching others about themselves. It was a great time! Comments are closed.
